Thinking about it, the genre name “Progressive”
anything has been a bit of a mistake in my eyes,
seeing as progressive music started with bands
trying to push the boundaries of the standard
musical boundaries, but now bands are known as
progressive bands even if they haven’t really
done anything new or exciting just because their
time signatures are different to 4/4. Band’s
like Dream Theater, Mudvayne, Static-X and Tool
are a few who in very different ways pushed to
boundaries of their styles. So rant over now and
what I’m facing is another dubbed progressive
metal band who’s either going to sink in
the mediocre ocean or sail down the stream of
success, there’s no middle ground anymore
with this kind of competition.
I’ve found this whole album a very enjoyable
experience in all fairness, I mean the whole progressive
genre as a whole does want you to give a large
chunk of your life to it with the length of its
tracks and this is no exception with a duration
of 57 minutes but I have found the whole thing
a pleasant experience. The 3 part title track
“To End it All” has a wide variety
of techniques and style changes, some of which
take me back to the days of my Forever Never obsession,
they had a similar thing going on except where
Tempus Fusion has a dark atmospheric attribute
weaving through it all Forever Never’s was
more of an upbeat feel good vibe, the vocals are
extremely close to being deemed as being the exact
same person even though it isn’t.
Seeing as the day Forever Never split up I was
beyond heartbroken this has actually been an extremely
exciting surprise. Much like a love deprived bitter
younger sibling to them but that’s really
working out well for them in terms of musical
style. It isn’t going to be the greatest
thing you’ve ever listened to in your life
but for 57 minutes you can enjoy some really aggressive
yet soothing tracks which in my eyes is a pretty
great way to spent an hour of the day and to answer
my starting point they’ve not sank, I believe
they’ve started their course down the stream.
