Hatebreed - Divinity of PurposeHatebreed – Divinity of Purpose

I don’t really need to say much about Hatebreed do I? Jamey Jasta and co have been absolutely obliterating venues and ear drums since 1994 and have never shown any sign of slowing down. Their trademark hardcore infused with punk and metalcore sound is easily recognisable to fans and non fans alike, “Divinity of Purpose” is their latest effort and an early one for 2013 but pushes their album count up to 7 all of which have been superb quality and ingenuity. These guys have been my favourite hardcore band since I first time heard “Another Day, Another Vendetta” and ever since when I’ve been in the gym or just generally needed some adrenaline, these are the guys I turn to.

I’m in awe, this material is absolutely fantastic they’ve experimented with things but not pushed the boat out to far as the trademark style is still in full force. “Put It To The Torch” hit me in the face like a cinderblock swung by an Olympic power lifter, that chord sequence and tone send chills up and down my spine, “Own Your World” provokes such aggression in me with some of those lyrical lines “We own the fucking world tonight”, just raw power! Even though generally being a Hatebreed release and before even listening to it you know pretty much the bulk of what you can expect to be on it, the fact that it’s all there but still so fresh makes it all the more impressive, nothing to extremely different and not by any means played safe either.

The span of 7 albums, 9 year career and a style that never changes or compromises the band has kept their fans powering on even through times of adversity with the whole “White Power” media scandal bringing them through times of triumph like their Grammy nomination. I cannot express to you the power and aggression that the music expresses but if you’ve ever heard a Hatebreed song I won’t need to explain that, just do yourselves a favour if you’re a metal or hardcore fan, give this a spin and let it course through your veins, the adrenaline is a much needed boost in the dark times of life.
