Stratovarius are currently weeks away from releasing
their fourteenth studio album ‘Nemesis’,
but in the meantime to keep their fans happy until
the release on the 22nd February, Stratovarius
have just released a new 5 track EP titled ‘Unbreakable’.
‘Unbreakable’ happens to be the first
single to be taken from the bands forthcoming
album ‘Nemesis’ and it is such a joy
to listen to as everything seems to fit ever so
perfect, the song flows for nearly 5minutes and
is dominated by the beautiful sounds of Jens Johansson’s
keyboard work which really do take centre stage,
the guitar work is good especially as the song
approaches the chorus where Matias Kupiainen takes
us on an melodic journey whilst the rest of the
band go all out with their outstanding instrumental
work and not to forget the epic climax of the
song where the band jam to perfection.
The rest of the EP features songs that have appeared
on Stratovarius albums in the past and for fans
of the band this is quite pointless as they already
own the tracks and for anyone else it gives you
an insight into the past of Stratovarius yet the
likes of ‘Falling Star’, ‘The
game Never Ends’, ‘Why Are We Here’
just lack the greatness that their new single
‘Unbreakable’ brings despite being
remastered, however ‘Freedom’ on the
other hand is a great tack and despite being a
good 13 years old it still sounds great now.
I do find the release of ‘Unbreakable’
a very strange move for Stratovarius, they obviously
didn’t want to release an standard single
and went for an EP instead which is a good move
but packaging it with songs that their fans already
have was not the best idea they have ever had,
if they added an extra track from the forthcoming
album or a couple of B-sides it would be a much
better release however listening to ‘Unbreakable’
it seems that Stratovarius may well be going down
a slightly heavier route with album number fourteen.
