The Barbe -Q- Barbies are an all female five band
hailing from Finland who play straight up rock
n roll whilst being heavily influenced by the
likes of AC DC, Motorhead, Queens Of The Stone
Age, Kiss and various other rock bands from the
golden generation.
In Finland the Barbe -Q- Barbies are well known
and have already come second in a poll over there
for the best new band back in 2011 and it seems
that they have taken this title seriously as they
are now back with their second studio album ‘Breaking
All The Rules’ which is due for release
on the 25th February and it quite simply rocks.
‘Breaking All The Rules’ is a big
edgy sleazy sounding rock ‘n roll album
which features 11 tracks which runs for just under
40minutes and is packed to the rafters with big
riff-tastic rock n’ roll anthems, ‘Crashing
Down’ opens the album and within the first
minute the song breezes through with catchy melodies
which will no doubt have you bopping along. ‘One
More (And I’ll Be Gone) follows on from
the opening track and is yet another slice of
catchy rock N’ roll with an immensely catchy
chorus.
The album flows really well from start to finish
with each song having so much potential that you
will find yourself listening to them all over
and over again until you pick out your favourite
songs, and after listening to the album over a
few times it is safe to say that the likes of
‘Whole Lotta You’, ‘Can’t
Get What You Are Looking For’ and the ballsy
‘STFU’ are easily some of the best
tracks that the album has to offer.
‘Gun In My Hand’ is the token slow
track on the album which comes in right near the
end of the album and really shows off the musical
skills of the Barbe –Q- Barbies as the song
is really stripped back and quite simply beautiful
sounding with such touching vocals and lyrics
and it also shows a more mature sounding side
of the band as they step so far away from the
sleazy rock n’ roll songs that the rest
of the album has to offer.
It is always hard for all female bands to break
into a near male dominated rock n’ roll
scene but that is not going to put the Barbe –Q-
Barbies off as they are set to show the world
what female rock n’ roll is all about with
their stunning second album ‘Breaking All
The Rules’.
