The Blackout are set to release their forth studio
album ‘Start The Party’ in a week
and it seems The Blackout have ditched the maturity
of their third studio album ‘Hope’
and gone back having fun which is what they have
always done best, with an album titled ‘Start
The Party’ which features Pritchard from
Dirty Sanchez crowd surfing on the front cover
you just know the next 40 minutes are going to
be fun.
Over the years The Blackout have managed to own
the live circuit with their big fun energetic
ways and it seems that ‘Start The Party’
has been written with the live circuit in mind
as the album is crammed with big sing-a-long moments
and just general musicianship which is going to
get the crowd bouncing up and down and generally
going bonkers.
The album opens with the title track ‘Start
The Party’ and it is a massive rock and
roll anthem with punk rock attitude, the song
is massive sounding with Sean Smith and Gavin
Butler bouncing off each other with their dual
vocals throughout, but it is the explosive chorus
which stands out the most as The Blackout launch
into a massive chant of “start the party,
come on everybody, rock the party, let’s
get it started”, which is bound to cause
a massive frenzy on the live circuit with pints
being thrown around and generally energetic madness
happening in the pit.
Tracks like ‘Radio’, ‘We Live
On’, ‘Free Yourself’ and ‘Sleep
When You’re Dead’ sound like your
classic Blackout tracks with their big punchy
riffs and general fast paced catchiness and all
have the potential to be future singles as they
feature so much bounce that you can’t help
but wonder if they were written with the radio
in mind.
There are a few slow paced tracks on the album
such as the beautiful sounding ‘Keep Singing’,
the real stripped back ‘You’ and ‘Running
Scared’ which see’s The Blackout mix
heavy riffs with more slow paced melodic vocals,
the songs are a good collection which shows that
despite writing a party album The Blackout can
still be mature in the way that they execute their
songs, ‘You’ is easily the most soppy
song out of the 3 and out of the whole album as
well, it may well not be your typical Blackout
fans kind of thing but you can guarantee that
after a few listens the song will have grown on
you with the words going around in your head.
‘Start The Party’ is easily the bravest
move The Blackout have made since they formed,
the album is diverse sounding in the way that
it is big immature party album with a few laid
back songs thrown in for good measures, and it
is safe to say that if you are having a bad day
or generally feeling slightly depressed then give
‘Start The Party’ a listen as it is
like it was written to put a smile on your face.
