This review is late to the party by a few days
because I didn’t even know this was even
in the process of being recorded! Here in the
UK there has been absolutely no press for this
album, I fell in love with their first album when
they still had Deuce in the fold with some heavier
rap rock tracks and still some on the softer side,
the follow up was still a good listen but there
was definitely signs of the band beginning to
sell out hence why on my iTunes there are much
less songs 5 star rated than the debut. So I’m
going to take the plunge with this one and see
where they’re going now, I don’t have
high hopes for it but I’m still heading
in to this with an open mind.
I let album opener “Dead Bite” roll
on, and I’ve sat here emotionless. What
I think has happened is that the band have become
a shadow of their former selves, they were this
prestige gritty rock act but now their losing
the very essence of what made them original in
the first place. Next song “From the Ground”
has more of what I wanted in it but it lacks that
full distorted sound, now it’s all just
soft tones coupled with softer vocals with glimmers
of what used to be. Even though I foresaw this
coming since they got rid of Deuce and released
“American Tragedy”, it’s still
really disappointing for me to hear this, what
they’ve become is a dance rap act and while
the songs are good for that field it’s just
not what those of us who’ve been there since
the start really want to hear.
Having said and meant every single word, I do
still like a couple of songs like “We Are”
and “Kill Everyone” because they are
most reminiscent of a better time, not only that
but I just generally like the style of them even
though it’s not something I would usually
listen to. Overall it would appear that Hollywood
Undead are heading in the same disappointed direction
that Linkin Park have done in recent years and
gone sort of “mainstream” if you will,
as if they weren’t popular enough, it’s
a sad thing to happen but it’s a horrible
fact of life.
