I would like to start by pointing out that the
band’s name and choice in design work gave
off a completely different impression of themselves
to what they actually sound like, I was rather
confused expecting some really dark sinister gothic
stuff and actually having 5 songs of rather upbeat
female fronted material drifting between rock
and metal. The key is never judge a book by its
cover but in this case next time around I’d
go a different direction as it doesn’t really
appeal to the right fanbase.
“You Are” has vocals that at times
remind me of both the German band Deadlock and
the Christian American act Flyleaf as it drifts
between the 2 styles with incredible range hitting
highs and lows with extreme precision. Following
song “Open Your Eyes” is exactly the
same kind of style, the music is simple sequences
but very effective and the vocals just melt over
the top of them, variation on the release too
with the much lighter moments like “Choir
Invisible”.
I like every song on this EP, “Back To You”
and “Driving In The Nails” being the
only ones I haven’t mentioned but both of
those are very melodic upbeat tunes with the same
skill and execution shown on the rest of the EP.
I must say I am rather please with this, after
expected another progressive death metal band
and receiving this how could I not be, fantastic
stuff hope to see more from Nya in 2013.
