Swiss melodic death metallers Dreamshade are set
to release their new album ‘The Gift Of
Life’ on the 28th January through Spinefarm
Records, the album has seen Dreamshade go through
a number of line up changes including taking on
a new vocalist in the form of Kevin Cali which
has clearly had a positive impact on the band
as this is set to be their biggest and best album
to date.
The album opens with ‘Photographs’
a song which proves to be the perfect album opener,
it features so much and is so pleasing on the
ears, the vocals start off with big screams and
before you know it they head down the melodic
path before reverting back to the opening screamo
stages, instrumentally the song is massive with
many twists and turns throughout the 4minutes
length of the track.
‘Your Voice’ comes in at 100 miles
per hour with a set of frantic guitar riffs and
in your face super charged vocals coming at you
moments later, at the 55seconds mark the song
takes a couple of second breather as things get
mellow before the band let rip again with a mad
flurry of extreme noise which is so heavy yet
so pleasing on the ears and this is pretty much
the routine of the song for the next 3-4 minutes.
The album title track ‘The Gift Of Life’
opens with a bit of electronic sampling as the
band go all out with yet another super charged
song which oozes in excellence, ‘Sandcastles’
features a big mix of heavy musicianship and melodic
melodies to keep you on board and interested,
whilst ‘Consumed Future’ see’s
Dreamshade rock out in a way that has been unheard
of an unseen throughout the album so far as they
let the synths and guitar riffs keep you drawn
in, whilst ‘Our Flame’ see’s
Dreamshade take a break from the heaviness and
as they treat us to short but sweet guitar driven
song with impressive vocals.
If you’re a fan of Children Of Bodom, In
Flames and Darkest Hour then you need to give
‘The Gift Of Life’ a listen as Dreamshade
are heavily influenced by all of these bands which
can clearly heard when listening to the album
but what is even more impressive than that is
the fact that these guys have created an album
that has been written to perfection, features
some shit hot production and is clearly going
to take the melodic metal scene by storm.
