Him are currently in the studio putting the finishing
touches to their eight studio album ‘Tears
On tape’ the album is due for release in
2013 but in the meantime Sony Records have decided
to put out yet another Him greatest hits album
this time in the form of ‘XX – Two
Decades Of Love Metal’ but unlike any other
Him greatest hits album this one only features
singles that have been released from the bands
seven studio albums as well as brand new single
‘Strange World’.
‘XX – Two Decades Of Love Metal’
features singles from 1997 right up until the
present day and it really is the ultimate Him
compilation package offering a slightly different
track listing from their ‘And Love Said
No Greatest Hits’ mainly for the fact that
that greatest hits only featured the songs from
1997 – 2004 and this features every single
they have ever released.
New track ‘Strange World’ is a good
welcome back from Him after a couple of years
away from the scene and it proves that they still
have it when it comes to making their own brand
of love metal music, it features some great instrumental
work and Ville Valo still has that knack of sucking
you in from the start with his catchy vocals.
If you are new to the world of Him and don’t
know where to start with their back catalogue
then I would suggest that ‘XX – Two
Decades Of Love Metal’ is the one and only
Him album that you need until their eighth studio
album touches down in 2013, if you are a hardcore
fan then I am sure you have already snapped the
album up just on the back of how good their new
single ‘strange World’ is, I personally
found it refreshing to listen to all these classic
Him songs after years of not listening to them,
the only fault that I can find in the album is
the fact that Sony are cashing in on Him and their
fans but I guess that is down to the individual
in if they are going to hand their hard earned
money over for one new song and nineteen classics.
