Back in January 2010 The Killers announced that
they were going on hiatus as since 2004 they had
been working constantly by releasing three albums
in the matter of six years and touring the world
constantly throughout that time scale as well,
when the hiatus was announced front man Brandon
Flowers put out a solo album and many people wondered
if The Killers would ever reform but a mere18
months later The Killers announced that they were
back working as a band and working on their forth
studio album ‘Battle Born’ which has
just been released.
It seems that time away from the music scene is
what The Killers have needed all along as ‘Battle
Born’ is one hell of a strong album where
a good 10 out of the 12 tracks featured on the
album could easily work as singles which is more
than could be said about the bands 2006’s
‘Sams Town’ and 2008’s ‘Day
& Night’ which were both met with mixed
reactions from the bands critics and fans alike.
‘Battle Born’ wastes no time in delivering
the goods as the opening track ‘Flesh And
Bone’ opens in a big mature sounding confident
way with Brandon Flowers telling a tale in such
an uplifting way, the song is massive sounding,
has the quirky lyrical style that many people
have come to expect from The Killers and surly
going to rule the airwaves once released as a
single in the near future as The Killers would
be silly not to release this as a single.
‘Runaways’ was the first single to
be previewed from ‘Battle Born’ back
in July and it proved a hit with the fans instantly
and it is so easy to see why as the song is a
big stadium sounding rock n roll track which flows
ever so well with Brandon Flowers catchy vocals
oozing in style and Ronnie Vannucci, JR drum beats
standing out for all the right reasons putting
‘Runaways’ up there with the bands
most successful singles.
Vocally the majority of ‘Battle Born’
is uplifting with songs such as ‘The Way
It Was’, ‘A Matter Of Time’,
‘ From Here On Out’ and ‘Battle
born’ standing out due to the massive stadium
rock style vocals than Brandon Flowers delivers
but then there are more slow paced songs such
as ‘Heart Of A Girl’ and the fantastic
‘Here With Me’, with the later of
the two standing out so much due to its loved
up lyrical content which anyone who has spent
a good amount of time away from a loved one can
relate to.
I feel that The Killers have given it their all
with ‘Battle Born’ the album has everything
from big guitar riffs, well placed synths, soaring
vocals and more importantly a collection of songs
that people are going to be listening to and talking
about for a long time.
