Sondura is normally the sort of name you would
associate with either the power metal or progressive
metal genres due to how it sounds and looks but
apparently they are neither of these; evidentially
they are a rock act, based in our cities capital
of London. These guys seem pretty young and lately
when young guys enter the game of breaking out
within rock music they have to commercialise their
stuff somewhere down the line as to actually gain
any sort of following, let’s take a look
see then as to whether or not Sondura will join
this long list of sell outs.
What I’m hearing is the last thing I would
have expected to be these guys style, mesh of
clean and lightly distorted guitar tones drifting
from melodic to thick and chunky riffs as displayed
in opener “Your Remain”, this alongside
the powerful vocals make this mix ideal. The opening
track then has fully captured my attention and
following track “New Beginnings” reminds
me of Alterbridge mixed with Shinedown and 3 Doors
Down, a cocktail of mainstream American rock music
but with a British twist then! “Live Before
You Die” is an upbeat little number reminiscent
heavily of early Alterbridge with the tone, don’t
get me wrong this is nowhere near as quick and
technical as Mr Mark Tremonti’s legendary
riffs but it’s an extreme likeness.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not going to
sit here and sing their praises all day because
they do have a long way to go, however this start
to their career you can see room for maturity
and musical growth but hell for an EP I’ve
been extremely impressed and taken aback by what
they’ve produced. Think of it as more of
an advertisement of things to come, there are
5 unique tracks spreading out and displaying the
parameters of what their style can do, like I
said with maturity they will hone in on the best
qualities and bang out some cracking albums, have
faith.
