The Dollyrots are set to release their forth studio
album on the 24th September which also coincides
with the bands massive tour across the UK with
Bowling For Soup and Patent Pending and the album
is pretty much what everyone has come to expect
from The Dollyrots in the way that they are forever
penning three chord fast and furious pop-punk
that is bouncier than your ten year old brothers
trampoline.
The album opens with ‘Starting Over’
which kicks off with a slight spoken word introduction
and as the song reaches the 43 second mark Kelly
Ogden and Luis Cabezas go all out making with
a short 10 second burst of energy and pure fun.
‘I Wanna Go’ follows on in pace from
the outro of ‘Starting Over’ as the
song is extremely poppy, catchy, bouncy and overall
a lot of fun and flows in a way that no matter
where you are you will be fighting yourself to
not sing-a-long to the extreme catchy nature of
the song.
‘Hyperactive’ is easily the strongest
sounding track on the album and it takes a tongue
in cheek look at the life of emo’s and is
a blast of a song that has been cleverly written
lyrically and instrumentally and within seconds
you will be humming along and before you know
if you will be joining in with Kelly Ogden singing
the massive chorus of “We are, we are, we
are, like animals, we’re wild’ magnetic,
attractive, kinetic, hyperactive”.
‘Satellite’ is another big enjoyable
poppy-punk track infact pretty much every track
on the album oozes in pop-punk greatness, and
the only tracks that try to be slightly different
are ‘F U Famous’ which is a quirky
track with a lot of raw screams and also ‘After
2012’ which see’s The Dollyrots slow
things done ever so slightly.
Fans of The Dollyrots will be more than impressed
with this self titled offering from the band,
it may not do enough to make them stand apart
from other bands in there genre but it keeps true
to what The Dollyrots are all about and I am pretty
sure that they are going to be picking up a massive
gathering of new fans once they hit the UK in
a couple of weeks to embark on a lengthy tour
with Bowling For Soup.
