Agent Cooper, there’s a name you haven’t
seen for a while I’ll bet! For the past 7
years the band has been in hibernation with nobody
sure as to when they were destined to awaken if
ever for that matter. Risky game don’t you
think? I know there’s been lots of - what
can only be described more as a marketing ploy than
a trend - high profile bands taking 4 years off
and returning to boost interest, but 7 years? Come
on dudes, nevertheless they have come back with
a new EP entitled “From The Ashes”,
perhaps referencing the bands rebirth.
The production quality is absolutely fantastic,
the sound of a classic recording artist and the
familiar style which was present back in the day,
but with a crisper modern sound, a proof that production
has come on leaps and bounds in the past decade
when compared to some past material. Only 6 tracks
in duration of really upbeat bouncy progressive
rock, makes a change from the ominous evil modern
side of the genre as songs like “Mother”
and “Tornado Dreams” prove that skill
and technicality can indeed have a energetic less
depressing approach.
“Power” definitely has a very Queen-esque
quality about it yet it’s not a rip off because
it’s the bands own style, but you can definitely
hear a resemblance to Freddie Mercury in those vocals
and for that matter there’s a certain musical
quality surrounding the whole EP resembling that
of the legendary British rockers. Whilst that style
of music now is dominated by the legends and all
newcomers struggle to grab onto any form of success
it’s nice to still see if a band really needs
to they can bring something out that can still capture
attention and have that kind of effect on people
much like this EP has with me.
It was a bit too long for a band to be away and
now there will definitely need to be a lot of work
in trying to regain the status they’ve buried
from back then, but with a fresher version of their
sound fitting for the modern age there may still
be hope for them yet!
3.5/5
