With 100% Ginger Wildheart made history with PledgeMusic
as back in August 2011 Ginger set up a PledgeMusic
campaign where his fans could help fund the record
by paying for various rare opportunities such as
having Ginger play at their house, signed CD’s
and much more and in less than a day the campaign
had already reached its target and when it came
to recording the album the total was up to an massive
555%.
Back in March this year Ginger released a triple
album which consisted of a set of ten tracks being
released every week for three weeks, the album
ended up being called 555% and was made available
only to people who helped out in the pledge campaign,
Ginger then asked the pledgers to pick their 12
favourite songs from the 30 tracks which would
make up the physical release of his next solo
album titled 100%.
‘100%’ is the forth studio album
from Ginger and is a really good listen with a
massive diverse set of tracks which I am guessing
is partly down to his fans/pledgers who skilfully
helped pick the final track listing. The album
opens with ‘Forget About It’ which
is an massive radio friendly rock anthem that
oozes is fun and positive vibe.
‘Internal Radio’ musically reminds
me ever so slightly of the latest Newton Faulkner
single ‘Write It On Your Skin’ as
it has that same upbeat catchy vibe, but as the
song progresses and the musical style slightly
changes back and forth you realise that Ginger
easily has the edge of Faulkner and has created
an extremely catchy diverse sounding lyrically
funny song.
‘Lover It’ll All Work Out’
see’s Ginger go down a slightly different
route from normal with a slightly soppy love song
that has originality running throughout. ‘You’re
The One, The One, Yeah’, I Know You’re
The One’ is a nice catchy track which features
a fast flowing repetitive chorus that has been
written to perfection.
One of the most interesting tracks on the album
is ‘Another Spinning Fucking Rainbow’
as from the start you will feel that you have
entered some kind of drug fuelled Tim Burton style
Charlie And The Chocolate Factory World and within
moments you will find yourself humming along to
the catchy and beat and in no time the lyrics
of “Another spinning fucking rainbow”
will be going around your head like a whirlwind.
I do feel that ‘100%’ does have a
solid set of tracks but a part of me wonders what
the other 18 tracks are like that we are missing
out on but I guess that is the bonus of the pledge
campaign and something that only the hardcore
Ginger fans will know about with the triple album
release, however I am sure that ‘100%’
please rock/pop/punk fans of all ages.
