Soil gained major success when they released their
second studio album ‘Scars’ back in
2001, the album featured everyone’s favourite
rock club anthem ‘Halo’ and helped make
Soil an household name within the metal scene, in
2004 the band released their third studio album
‘Redefine’ and weeks later Ryan McCombs
left Soil to join Drowning Pool who were crying
out for a new vocalist at the time and since then
Soil took A.J Cavalier to replace McCombs and have
released a couple of albums whilst touring across
the world relentlessly but with nowhere near the
same recognition as before.
Back in 2011 to mark the tenth anniversary of
Soil the band announced that Ryan McCombs was
rejoining them for a special tenth anniversary
tour and at the time everyone including the band
was unaware on if McCombs had rejoined just for
the tour or for the foreseeable future but as
it now stands McCombs is back in the band as a
permanent member.
During October 2011 Soil embarked on a lengthy
tour of the UK alongside Puddle Of Mudd which
seemed like a massive blast from the past for
some people as both Puddle Of Mudd and Soil were
massive back in the early noughties yet both lost
their household name status as the years went
on, to coincide with the tour Soil recorded their
show at London Electric Ballroom on the 14th October
and have now released it as a special DVD/CD package
entitled ‘Reliving The Scars In London’.
‘Reliving The Scars In London’ is
the perfect package for any hardcore Soil fans
and generally anyone that has enjoyed the music
of Soil but even more so enjoys the vocals and
high energy of McCombs, the recording perfectly
captures the positive atmosphere in the sold out
Electric Ballroom and also captures the fun that
Soil have on stage with one guy rocking out in
the crowd with a false leg which eventually ends
up on stage with McCombs taking an alcoholic drink
from it before continuing the show, the DVD does
seem to be unedited and will come across like
a full on true experience for any of the fans
that were actually at the show.
The CD part of the package is pretty much like
a mini Soil greatest hits the only difference
is that it’s been captured live and you
get to hear the crowd singing along with the band
and once again the very few mistakes the band
make have been left in such as just before the
band blast off into ‘My Own’ McCombs
speaks to the crowd to thank them for coming along
and then makes a skool boy error when he slightly
looses himself and starts to introduce his band
as Drowning Pool, but the crowd and band all laugh
and the show continues.
Overall ‘Reliving The Scars In London’
is the perfect package for old and new Soil fans
as it captures the pure passion of songs such
as ‘Halo’, ‘Redefine’,
‘Inside’, ‘The One’, ‘Wide
Open’ and many others in such an amazing
way and prove that Soil are still here and still
as rocking as ever.
