Eklipse are a new 4 piece band from Germany and
they are a group of 4 classically trained young
female musicians who have a look and feel not
so far away from that of Emilie Autumn or something
you would find in your average Tim Burton movie,
musically the band take well established songs
that have hit the charts all over the world and
give them a full on instrumental treatment in
the form of the violin.
Their debut album ‘A Night In Strings’
is a very interesting album and features the girls
covering ten songs by well established artists
such as Linkin Park, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake,
Snow Patrol, Coldplay and many others and just
from that list you can tell that the songs Eklipse
covere are very diverse which in many people’s
eyes could be a direct attempt for Eklipse to
appeal to the widest range of people from the
off.
The covers that Eklipse do on the album are instantly
recognisable and really shows of the bands talent
as violin players as each and every track sounds
beautiful but then it should as the sound of a
violin played correctly is pure bliss on the ears.
The stand out covers on the album are Linkin Park
‘In The End’, Lady Gaga ‘Paparazzi’
and Coldplay ‘Clocks’ partly because
these are the most recognised songs on the album
but also because Eklipse really know how to play
the violin and bring a good alternative touch
to these tracks which will now appeal to people
who may not of been interested in the orginals.
It is safe to say that Eklipse are fantastic but
the downside to them is the fact that stuff like
this has been done many times before you just
need to watch past episodes of shows like Britain’s
Got Talent for proof, it would be good to see
Eklipse create their own songs but then there
is the question of would people take notice of
the band if they stuck to their own music, who
knows but maybe in the future they should mix
it with an album that features covers and original
tracks just to show the world how serious they
are about their music.
