So as it seems, Halestorm have released another
EP building up to the release of their highly
anticipated second album. This one however unlike
the last features their own material with alternate
clean versions. I feel they made the right move
releasing EP’s to keep interest in their
band growing whilst putting their new release
together.
I thought I’d start by addressing the fact
that there are 3 versions of “Love Bite
(So Do I)”; the album version, clean version
and super clean version. The clean version cuts
out the word “Bitch” and the super
clean version from what I can gather cuts out
the word “balls”, I don’t see
why they didn’t just do that in the clean
version rather than have 3 of effectively the
same song. Now the song itself is a face breaker;
a damn heavy track, high octane pace with the
usual apparent anti-girlfriend based theme. “Rock
Show” less aggressive focussing on the melodic
gentle side of their sound, more of a straight
up rock structure rather than the heavier stuff,
Lzzy Hale’s vocals though really drag that
track swinging up with some of the best in the
world.
“Daughters of Darkness” is a darker
song; the ominous feel to the sound distinguishes
it from the others. That’s the thing with
this EP each song fights for its right to be acknowledged
as unique; “Love Bite” as the heavy
one, “Rock Show” as the anthem, “Daughters
of Darkness” as the dark on and the last
track “Here’s to Us” as the
really gentle one. Definitely worth getting even
though I think all of the tracks will be on their
upcoming album, this is available now and I wouldn’t
want to wait any longer!
