Erik Chandler is best known for being in Bowling
For Soup a band in which he has played bass for
and generally had a laugh with since 1994 and
after 17 years of solidly working with Bowling
For Soup he has found time to create his own side
project and is now gearing up to release his debut
EP ‘Writing The Wrongs’.
The solo work from Erik Chandler is so different
from the work he has done with Bowling For Soup
in the past and see’s Erik take on a more
serious 1980’s alternative rock approach
which has clearly been influenced by the likes
of R.E.M, Elvis Costello and many other great
classic artists.
The opening track ‘Tonight’s The Night’
is a straight forward rock and roll track with
an really catchy edge thanks to the standout vocal
tone that Chandler has mastered, lyrically the
track deals with love and secrets whilst instrumentally
Chandler knocks out some tasty guitar riffs whilst
Tom Polce helps out with some catchy drum beats.
‘Push The Pedel’ is another infectious
old skool influenced rock and roll track which
shines from the moment Chandler lays down the
opening vocals right until he stops strumming
his guitar, the chorus is extremely catchy and
will become lodged in your head for time to come.
‘Hold It Together’, is more of a slow
paced song which really relies on the chorus for
it to get going and maintain the strongness’
of the previous tracks on the EP, but trust me
once the song get’s going it is yet another
catchy masterpiece under the belt for Chandler.
‘Malibu Classic’ opens with a mad
flurry of “woaaah, woaaah” vocals
sounding very much Weezer-esque , as the song
progresses it get’s catchier and easily
becomes the stand out track on the album which
has a big summer festival sing-a-long hit written
all over it.
‘Writing The wrongs’ is a very interesting
EP from Erik Chandler and it is also a good insight
for fans of Bowling For Soup and Chandler to understand
more what music other than Bowling For Soup he
is interested in listening to, writing and playing,
the EP may only run for just over 12 minutes but
there is a lot of enjoyment to be had as I am
sure after the first listen the repeat button
will be hit.
