The world’s most exciting super group -
Chickenfoot - have returned! Featuring members
of Van Halen (Sammy Hagar & Michael Anthony),
world renowned solo guitarist Joe Satriani and
Red Hot Chilli Peppersdrummer Chad Smith, when
the band emerged back in 2009 journalists and
fans alike were left with bulges in their trousers
(even the women). Their first album was a showcase
of what 4 of the biggest men in rock music were
capable of creating when given the opportunity.
They’ve come back and dropped their second
release “III” which is ram packed
full of the same magic that the first displayed.
With these guys reputations from the word go you’d
expect some really hectic complex songs, but this
is far from the case with first track “Last
Temptation” like the style these guys write
is some old school rock with tasty yet simplistic
riffs in comparison to Satriani’s usual
stuff. I’m feeling this collection of songs
sticks in my memory quicker and for a longer duration
than that of the previous; “Alright Alright”
is stuck on loop in my head at the moment, “Dubai
Blues” may be my favourite track from everything
they’ve released, heavy on the groovy blues,
beautifully crafted little fills from Satriani
and a beautiful little solo towards the end.
The best part about this follow up is that it’s
not just more of the same; they’ve pushed
it further this time around and really captured
the best of their capabilities. I think the reason
their press hasn’t exactly been brilliant
in the past is due to its simplicity I feel, its
not what people had got excited about hearing
but I absolutely love it. This I feel is an album
that can be consider the very one that affirmed
the “Super” part of the “Super
Group” classification, Yeah I said it.
