Lacuna Coil have been working on their sixth studio
album ‘Dark Adrenaline’ for some time
now, it was originally suppose to be released
towards the end of 2011 but due to industry reasons
such as promotions, listening parties and choosing
future singles the album got pushed back to the
23rd January which means that the album is now
a couple of weeks away from release.
‘Dark Adrenaline’ really does match
its name as the album has a big dark feel running
throughout it but at the same time it also has
some extremely catchy moments but it is safe to
say that when the album gets heavy its heavier
than anything Lacuna Coil have done before and
when it gets catchy it is also catchier than anything
they have done before and the mix works very well
for the band.
The album opens with ‘Trip The Darkness’
which is the bands current single, it opens with
a tasty keyboard pieace and moments later the
vocals of Andrea Ferro come in all softly and
a good 10 seconds later Cristina Scabbia comes
in with her extremely beautiful and melodic vocals
which takes the song on a short catchy stint.
Andrea Ferro and Cristina Scabbia work well with
their back to back vocals and complement each
other.
‘Against You’ is another track which
flows fast and smoothly. But it is moments like
‘Kill The Light’ and ‘I Don’t
Believe In Tomorrow’ which stand out the
most, ‘Kill The Light’ is easily one
of the best tracks that Lacuna Coil have written
in years, the vocals from Andrea Ferro sound quite
rocking whilst those of Cristina Scabbia have
a power catchy feel, once again the mix of vocals
are great but it is Andrea Ferro’s vocals
which have the biggest impact here. ‘I Don’t
Believe In Tomorrow’ opens with a mud flurry
of chunky guitar riffs and is easily the heaviest
track on the album and once again Andrea Ferro
goes all out with his gruff sounding rock and
roll vocals which makes the song sound massive.
A song which will interest a lot of people and
also draw in a massive divided opinion is the
bands cover of the classic REM song ‘Losing
My Religion’, the cover is good but compared
to the original REM version it is lacking the
whole madness and lastability, but don’t
let this put you off as it is still a good listenable
catchy track.
After listening to ‘Dark Adrenaline’
a few times over it is safe to say that it has
been worth the wait and is one of the strongest
albums that the Lacuna Coil have ever released
coming a close second to their 2006 album ‘Karmacode’
and I am pretty sure that there fan base will
expand once ‘Dark Adrenaline’ officially
get’s it’s release on the 23rd January.
5/5
