This Danish 3 piece has – considering the
current scene- produced something that I thought
was solely destined to be written for games and
movies. They’ve taken your stereotypical
Australian surf music and integrated some really
slick Spanish flamenco techniques into it. There
are many strange things about this album; one
of which is the fact the track names are numbers
from 18 – 33 and another is that there are
no lead vocals to speak of, just group harmonies
every once in a while.
The concept is simple enough and when you listen
to the first song “019”after the 18
second intro track it’s clear that the band
have put a lot of thought and consideration into
piecing together their material. It flows through
as smooth as a summers breeze, so much so that
due to the short song times and the fact they
all follow through to the following song without
stopping it’s hard to even tell that it
isn’t 1 continuous song. “031”
is one of my favourites here because it starts
with an evil tone and then spirals off into this
dirty rock infused surf flamenco with a woman
having an orgasm every so often, shows the sheer
distance they could take their music.
They use the woman orgasm a lot during the second
half of the album, why I don’t know but
it seems to fit well actually. I’ve listened
to the entire album front to back numerous times
on numerous different occasions; I do begin to
wonder how the hell they would perform this live.
I suppose that give a bit of mystery to intrigue
people into attending their shows but for me I
can only picture these guys playing at a restaurant
in Spain accompanying tourists eating their dinner.
The reason I think this is that the music gives
them nothing really, how could you perform this
on a stage to people and keep them interested?
I might find out in the future.
To sum up then, great concept, pretty good execution,
and the mystery lies within surrounding a performance.
I mean I wouldn’t walk around with my iPod
on listening to this kind of thing but then again
it’s not really the type of genre I’m
interested in, for what they do they are good
at it and I think I’ll leave it there.
