With all of the impressive British releases I’ve
been dealing with recently, I’ve began to
feel myself warming up to them when receiving
them in the post. When this little bugger popped
through I took one look at it and thought “this
looks very promising, straight on you go”;
I think I’m dangerously close to blowing
the walls of my room away with the volume I’ve
been rocking away to this at. Brighton based 5
piece Furyon have given this album away for free
with the latest edition of Metal Hammermagazine,
I think I’ll need to obtain another copy
as I feel I’m close to wearing this one
out, in fact I’m pretty sure I’ve
played “Don’t Follow” that many
times that my dog has started barking the riff.
If I had to describe it effectively so somebody
could picture it; I’d say its the perfect
middle ground between hard rock and metal music,
with more power metal-esque vocal melodies, yeah
I think I’ll do with that, it’s heavy
but not to the extreme and is still ram packed
with tasty yet chunky riffs. Opener “Stand
Like Stone” has all the qualities of some
of the past top energetic rock hits, thick distortion
with some powerful vocals – Imagine Myles
Kennedy of Alter Bridge but with a gritty tinge.
The following 2 are much this same; “Souveniers”
and “Don’t Follow” are like
a darker styled version of Alter Bridge’s
songs actually, It works ever so well.
You can’t actually pick fault with this
material, the guitarists show that they are quite
skilled at moving round a fret board, the vocalist
proves he has raw talent and they’ve asserted
a wide range of material to extend their reach
of their writing because alongside all of the
heavy songs and infectious choruses there are
also some lighter moments. Like “Our Peace
Someday”, that song is still powerful just
with a lower tempo and hauntingly soft beautiful
melodies, a contrast in comparison to some of
the other songs? Of course but it leaves them
the option to do something with that lower side
of the spectrum in the future.
Definitely a release that is a credit to metal
heads of Britain, I don’t know where all
of these bands are all of a sudden coming from
or where they’re all getting their breaks
from but I’m loving it! I cannot wait till
small one day festivals start happening so I can
see them all and especially Furyon, this has been
the album I’ve raised hell with the most
of late!
