Brigade are one of the most under rated artists
to ever take to the alternative music scene, they
have been working their butts off since 2003 and
have seen hardly any recognition throughout the
8 years that they have been a band, in 2006 they
released their stunning debut album ‘Lights’
which caused a slight stir in the underground
whilst their second album ‘Come Morning
We Fight’ was released in 2008 and featured
some monster songs and received rave reviews across
the board but still failed to push Brigade into
the mainstream.
Since the release of ‘Come Morning We Fight’
Brigade have pretty much kept a low profile but
at the end of 2010 they announced they were working
on their third studio album and gave away a 4
track EP titled ‘Love Is A Duel’ free
with the November 2010 issue of Rock Sound magazine
which was snapped up by thousands of rock fans
whilst Brigade worked alongside the pledge music
campaign on their third album.
The third Brigade album ‘Will Be Will Be’
has been available for a couple of months now
for anyone who helped out with the pledge campaign
but has also just had its general release across
the UK but this came with sad news that Brigade
are going into semi-retirement with no more tours
scheduled for the foreseeable future which is
sad news for any fan who picked up ‘Will
Be Will Be’ with the hope of seeing Brigade
blast out their new songs live.
‘Will Be Will Be’ is easily the strongest
sounding and most important album that Brigade
have ever created as they are bowing out to the
music industry on a high musically as the album
features some of the catchiest songs you will
of ever heard from Brigade and at the same time
the big tasty guitar riffs that they have been
chucking out for the past 8 years are still in
place but sounding bigger and better than ever.
The album opens with ‘200 Scratches’
which features an instrumentally heavy opening
with pulsating drum beats and chunky guitar riffs
and seconds later the unique and ever so catchy
vocals from Will Simpson come in and take you
on one hell of a mammoth sing-a-long journey,
with Will singing with pure passion throughout.
From hearing the opening track you just know that
the whole album is going to be worthy of listening
to and that really is the case as each and every
song on the album has the potential to be a single
with plenty of air play but sadly we all know
that this is not going to happen as the music
industry really has failed Brigade.
The most standout moments on the album happen
to be ‘A Heinous Crime With Draconian Consequences’
which has a massive catchy knack thanks to the
passionate vocals from Simpson, ‘Eden’
is also another fantastic track which was clearly
written for the radio due to its catchy nature
and spot on breakdowns, however it will be ‘Adieu’
which will appeal the most to the majority of
hardcore Brigade fans as the song has been written
and recorded to perfection and features everything
from bouncy basslines, rippling riffs, a catchy
chorus and massive group vocals leading the song
out.
As mentioned above each and every track on the
album has true potential to be a single or just
stand out to different people for various different
reasons and I feel that a lot of people will find
‘Find Your Own Way Home’ quite interesting
as it see’s Brigade take on quite an experimental
route and they really do nail it and close the
album leaving you wanting more.
‘Will Be Will Be’ is the perfect
Brigade album and they have done themselves and
their fans proud and going into semi-retirement
may well be bad news for Brigade and their fans
but it is the right decision for the band financially
as over the years they have had minimal support
in the form of press and general publicity and
physically can’t afford to carry on like
this for much longer, if only ‘Will Be will
Be’ was pushed in a bigger way it could
of grabbed Brigade that extra bit of exposure
they truly deserve and have been crying out for
over the past few years.
