The Hype Theory have recently had one of the best
summer’s of their lives which saw them play
at pretty much every major festival across the UK
on the Red Bull stage thanks to their success on
the Red Bull Bed Jam competition which ran earlier
in the year, so if you happened to be at Download,
Sonisphere, T In The Park, Hevy Festival and many
others you may well of come across this young poppy-punk
act who have just released their highly anticipated
debut album ‘Glory Days’.
‘Glory Days’ is a pure poppy-punk
album which flows so fast and well, each and every
one of the tracks has a massive sing-a-long vibe
and has massive potential for future radio play
as the 8 tracks included on ‘Glory Days’
are exactly what the radio was created for.
The album opens with ‘Hold Tight’
which starts off with some tasty drum beats before
the catchy guitars and bouncy basslines come in,
and at the 20 second mark front lady Katy Jackson
comes in with her powerful vocals and takes full
control of the track leading you to an extremely
infectious chorus with the rest of the band knocking
out some killer instrumental work which has more
bounce that an retro space hopper party.
‘Kid At Heart’ was the song which
introduced me to The Hype Theory back in the summer
when they released it as an single and I have
heard the song many times over since then and
it still has the same positive upbeat feel to
it as it did when I first heard it, it’s
a true summer anthem and will help anyone beat
the winter blues which are currently approaching
us at a rapid pace.
‘You’re Going Home Alone’,
starts off in a more mellow way than the other
tracks on the album but there is something about
the pace and feel of the song which makes it stand
out and when the chorus hits you just know this
is yet another classic Hype Theory moment and
Katy’s vocals are on top form once again.
There is not a dull moment to be heard on ‘Glory
Days’ as each song breezes through with
pure bounce and happy vibes, take ‘Rich
And Famous’ for example the whole band come
together and churn out a beautifully crafted pop-punk
number where the instrumental work is outstanding
and extremely bouncy and equally as important
and outstanding are the catchy and lovable vocals
from Katy which see’s her singing about
the rich and famous.
The standout track from the album has to be the
album closer ‘We Will Be Singing’
it is a pure happy sing-a-long track which is
bound to be an dance floor filler, and the way
that the song builds up towards the end with everyone
coming in for a massive sing-a-long of “We
Will Be Singing When Were Sober” is just
fantastic and going to go down an storm at future
Hype Theory shows.
It seems like poppy-punk is coming back in fashion
faster than chequered shirts did a few years ago
and The Hype Theory are certainly going to be
at the front of the English pop-punk scene for
many years as it is not every day you get a band
who produces such a perfect debut album as ‘Glory
Days’ and it is safe to say if these guys
were American they would of been snapped up by
a major label by now.
