Foreigner are legends of the classic rock world
who has been going for a solid 35 years and in
that time they have gone many line up changes
and have 9 studio albums under their belts, the
band recently spent time on the road touring alongside
Journey and Styx hitting up some of the best arena’s
across the UK.
The last studio album Foreigner released was ‘Can’t
slow Down’ back in 2009 and now the band
are back with another new album ‘Acoustique’,
which happens to be different from any other Foreigner
album, instead of releasing a collection of new
songs ‘Acoustique’ see’s Foreigner
revisit some of their most loved songs in an unplugged
acoustic way, the album features 11 classic tracks
along with a couple of new songs and surprises.
Now I know a lot of people get annoyed with cheap
cash in albums such as greatest hits, remix albums
and what not but ‘Acoustique’ is an
album that is justified as it is the first time
that anyone has heard latest vocalist Kelly Hansen
sing most of these songs on record and secondly
the whole acoustic vibe works wonders for the
songs of Foreigner.
Some of the songs reworked on ‘Acoustique’
are ‘Cold As Ice’, ‘Juke Box
Hero’, ‘Waiting For A Girl Like You’,
‘Fool For You Anyway’, ‘Double
Vision’ and each and everyone features a
slight twist on the original for example the new
version of ‘Cold As Ice’ opens in
a upbeat bouncy way whilst the original was quite
tinny and basic sounding, whilst ‘Starrider’
features Tom Gimbel play one of most beautiful
Saxaphone pieces my ears have ever had the chance
to hear.
Even the full on electric new track ‘Save
Me’ shows true potential at becoming yet
another classic Foreigner track which the fans
are going to cherish for years to come, with its
big soppy sing-a-long vibe.
The new version of ‘I Want To Know What
Love Is’ is also worth a listen, I have
to say at first I was slightly disappointed as
this song should have been an acoustic reworking
and would have gone down a storm but saying that
the version included here is still top stuff.
‘Acoustique’ is without-a-doubt a
must for all Foreigner fans but even if you are
new to Foreigner I would still recommend the album
as I always find acoustic music that little bit
better than a full on electric set up when it
comes to classic rock as it gives each and every
member that time to shine in a more raw laid back
way.
