I have just come across a new band called Lion
Sex, they are a five piece band made up of Jef
Leppard, JJ Lyons, Davy Lions, Tommy Tigers and
Jakk Vanity and they have a look that see’s
Marilyn Manson crossed with Motley Crue whilst
their music sounds like your typical classic rock
band with a slight modern vibe, now anyone reading
this who have yet to come across the band will
have a horrible picture in their head of a new
band that has just ripped off everything that
is great from other bands and in all honestly
that is exactly what Lion Sex have done they have
taken the best parts from Def Leppard, Motley
Crue, Marilyn Manson, Steel Panther and many other
awesome bands whacked it into a blender and came
out with a right unoriginal mess.
Lion Sex are set to release their debut album
‘Get It’ on the 7th November, it was
recorded in Wales and produced by Matthew Bond
and mixed by Jeff Rose and Martin Ford who have
also worked alongside Bullet For My Valentine,
Trivium and Skindred in the past and they are
hoping that Lion Sex enjoy similar success as
the other acts they have worked with.
Well ‘Get It’ is not that perfect
stadium rock album that these guys were hoping
for but it is an average sounding sleazy rock
‘n’ roll album that you will get some
enjoyment from as long as you can get on with
Jef Leppards gruff sounding vocals which Cleary
have a marmite love or hate vibe.
The best tracks on the album are ‘M.I.A’
which opens up with some thick and fast guitar
riffs and Jef Leppards gruff vocals coming on
over the top quite nicely with a catchy vibe,
‘Too Good’ which once again opens
up with some fast paced instrumental work and
nifty vocals to follow especially during the ever
so catchy chorus, ‘Smokin’ Out The
Neighbourhood’ has a slight Wildhearts vibe
running throughout it making it a standout track,
whilst ‘Nobody Said It Was Gonna Be Easy’
is the lead single to be taken from the album.
Overall ‘Get It’ is not going to take
Lion Sex to the dizzy heights that they are hoping
for as at the end of the day they are a new band
built up on reused features from their name through
to their image and even their sound, ‘Get
It’ is a very average debut release and
it’s going to be hard for these guys to
gain a solid fan base with this lacklustre collection
of songs.
