Here we have the L.A five piece American Eyes, who have been together
since 2002. They have experienced enough trouble in their time, finding
it hard to get local shows due to having a bad reputation. That was until
a gay club let them play which went down a storm and attracted the attention
of local radio stations, promoters and venues once more. Then, they caught
the attention of SideOneDummy Records.
So, 'Never Trust Anything that Bleeds' is the bands first release on
SideOneDummy and is a six track concept EP which is based around a relationship
that happened in lead singer David Henry's life. The end result is amazing.
The EP starts off with "Knife Fight With A Girl (True Story)' which
is a song about confusion, incomprehension and the emotions of having
to sever ties with a former love. The song's pretty punky and catchy with
some dance rhythms.
Next up is "Telephone Wires" which is the stand out track on
the EP and is very catchy with strong lyrics. Then we have "Carry
On For Keepsake", which is an anthemic song that grapples painfully
with a sense of loss in the wake of a tumultuous relationship. "Girl
With The Broken Heart (By The Way)" is a very strong rocking song.
"Day We Died" is a collaboration featuring vocals from Curt
Smith and is a pretty mellow song. The EP finishes with "Radio"
which is a upbeat sing-along track where Henry sends the message across
that he's doing what he loves.
Over all, this concept EP is awesome. Check it out you might just find
yourself a new favourite band.
