The Hype Theory are a new female fronted poppy punk
band hailing from Chelmsford in Essex and they are
set to release their single ‘Kid At Heart’
on the 8th August.
‘Kid At Heart’ is exactly what you
would expect from a female fronted poppy-punk
band in the way that the song flows at a nice
pace and manages to be extremely upbeat and happy
sounding throughout with front lady Katy letting
off her melodic vocals in a full on infectious
way, the only downside to the song is it is extremely
repetitive but then that’s pop-punk for
you.
The B-side ‘There Are The Times’
features enough bounce and positive energy to
be a full on single release on its own and is
bound to grow to be a fan favourite with the future
fans that these guys are going to pick up on their
journey touring the country over.
The single also features an acoustic version
of ‘Kid At Heart’ and hearing the
song stripped back is really interesting as it
gives Katy the full opportunity to shine with
her vocals and she does that with ease.
As soon as a you mention a female fronted poppy-punk
band everyone instantly brings the Paramore comparisons
out of the hat mainly because some people are
lazy and Paramore are the token poppy-punk band
that everyone knows but The Hype Theory are so
different from Paramore and bring some much needed
excitement to the UK pop-punk scene.
