Single Review
Blink 182 - Up All NightBlink 182 – Up All Night

I have been a huge fan of Blink 182 for many years now and loved their whole immature song nature about fucking dogs and masturbating over pretty much anything but saying that I also really enjoyed their self titled album which took on a more mature and serious sound, so when I heard that Blink 182 were about to preview their first single in 8 years I was excited but slightly unsure of what to expect but instantly knew there would be elements of Angels And Airwaves in there.

‘Up All Night’ is unlike anything that Blink 182 have ever done, if you read forums and the bands Facebook page you will see that it is rammed of messages asking when Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker joined Angels And Airwaves because in reality the song has more of an Angels And Airwaves feel than it does Blink 182, but saying that it also has elements of Box Car Racer and Plus 44 so to me it looks like Blink 182 have put all the arguments about previous bands behind them and used it their benefit to come up with a harder hitting more mature sound, the track opens with a massive guitar riff that is bound to cause a frenzy in the mosh pit, moments later Delonge’s vocals come in sounding like he is taking us on yet another Angels And Airwaves adventure which is going to be a love/hate divide with most Blink 182 fan’s but after listening to the song over and over again I love the fact he has gone down that vocal route, the drumming is killer from start to finish with Barker smashing the hell out of his drums like his life depends on it and in general the song takes us on an more experimental route which leaves the Blink we all love and no back at the starting blocks.

Overall there is going to be a massive divide over ‘Up All Night’ as it has been an 8 year wait, the band have recently upset the English fans by postponing a massive UK tour by a year whilst opting to tour America with My Chemical Romance instead which has put a lot of the fans in a negative mindset, on first listen I am sure many people will not like ‘Up All Night’ myself included but if you give it time you will realise the song is a grower and that ‘Up All Night’ may well not be like classic Blink but it is the future of Blink and you have to give them massive respect for making a slight change to their winning forumula.
