When the first track starts, you might be surprised to learn this is
in fact a girl band. To be honest, even after the verse starts, you still
aren't one hundred percent sure.
Heavy riffs, heavy drums, heavy fucking everything. If you weighed this
music, I imagine it would break your scales.
I wouldn't want to meet these girls in an alley! However, I'll gladly
listen to them. With a sound vaguely similar to the Distillers, McQueen
produce passionate “rawwwwwrk!” music, and as far as the opening
track “Neurotic” goes, it's good stuff.
The third track is really something special. I absolutely fucking love
it, excuse my french. “Running Out Of Things To Say,” is slightly
softer than the previous tracks, and this is where I think they're at
their best. It's not that much softer, but as I said, slightly. Awesome
riffs, funky bass, and just everything brilliance. If this was a single,
alone, I'd rate it 5 out of 5.
It seems things are sticking with the softer theme, I love it. Now they're
becoming more like a band I've previously reviewed, called Slunt. In fact
track 5, “Numb,” sounds very similar to one of Slunt's songs,
“When You Like It,” as far as chorus' go.
And from then on the tracks remain at a decent standard, nothing exceptional
but certainly not bad. A very good album, ending with “I Don't Know
How To Break It To You,” with a very upbeat, semi-cheesy punky riff,
I love it.
All in all, a great album that has a misleading start but soon finds its
bearings and ends up being very listenable and likable.
4/5
