When you think of German metal what bands come straight
to mind? Obviously for most people its Rammstein
and for some others it might be Heaven Shall Burn.
With Rammstein being such a force in the metal scene
and they hailing from Germany when receiving fellow
German band Die Vorboten’s (Translates to
The Harbingers) debut full length album “Aufschrei”
(translates to “Scream”) it adds a curiosity
to my day.
So in the CD player it goes and what am I going
to experience? A rip off of the big German that
dominate the scene or something fresh? More like
a fresh brand of metal with influence from industrial
metal legends Rammstein and its quite enjoyable!
I didn’t expect that its very atmospheric
and strange but it always somehow stays upbeat.
“Das Volk” is a massive song filled
with heavy metal and the keyboard parts that keep
it extremely upbeat and interesting with some pretty
different effects. “Vaterland” even
includes some screaming vocals which are in such
a way that the music drops to just heavy metal so
that it fits in perfectly. I find that across the
album their style is on every song but each different
song incorporates its own kind of personality in
the form of what type of vibe it gives off; “Extreme”
gives off a more ominous and eerie type of feel
and the previous songs give off really happy vibe,
“Hauptstadt” is extremely heavy with
electro vibes between the bursts of metal, the electro
feel is also in the song “Smeide, Smeide!”
That was all in the first 5 tracks of the album!
There are 6 tracks left! In these last 6 they tackled
a really melodic song “Der Wig”, it’s
quite heavy during the verses but the chorus is
just purely filled with melody. The other 5 just
repeat the stylistic way in which the first 5 were
written and its such a refreshing change to the
type of modern metal I’m used to.
This album was a damn good listen and for a debut
it’s just exciting to think what heights a
band this promising can do with such a good debut!
Die Vorboten are definitely a band to keep an eye
on over the next few years.
5/5
