EP Review
Ruins of Earth - Misguided LifeformsRuins of Earth – Misguided Lifeforms

As soon as I even looked at this when it arrived I knew exactly what I was in for; a metal band that has not much in the form of originality to offer me. It’s not bad but it’s just already been done so many times and at much better qualities, if you’re going to start a metal band in this day and age you definitely need to be unique or you’re never going to get anywhere. The overlaying vocals don’t harmonise but instead clash with each other making for a horrible sound in parts.

The first track “Funeral” displays initial elements of the deathcore genre mostly in the guitar work but then it kicks into a much faster pace with quick drumming and riff’s although it sounds far too familiar to a kind of Sylosis style mixed with a more death metal style like Heaven Shall Burn and the breakdowns are far too similar to what I’ve heard from Romeo Must Die.

The second track “The Wait” to me is a bit pointless as the majority of it is instrumental but not the kind of instrumental that allows the musicians to really show off what they’ve got, it’s more of a standard song just missing vocals and it’s also not as quick as the rest of the songs on the EP, the rain at the end is weird but quite cool as well like its hitting a waterproof jacket.

The third track “Become Inhuman” is much better. It’s like the first track but the vocals are fit together better and whilst it may be true that again it’s not really original it’s much better than the previous 2. It flows much better too and is easier to follow, still I do think a better quality is needed along with a bit more originality in their approach to song writing.
The final track “An Unreal Entity” is pretty much in the same vein as the first track and there’s not much really left for me to say about it. The EP really isn’t off to much of a professional start, the band don’t have a distinguished logo, an appealing cover, original material on the EP itself; mostly you need to really get the music sorted before you release anything and then you if you want to be taken seriously all of these things need to be considered. Maybe next time eh?

2/5
