If you are a regular reader of Alternative Vision
then you will know that the Black Veil Brides are
one of my favourite new bands of the year, they
came into my life back in February when they supported
the Murderdolls in Bristol and to start with Andy
Biersack made a good impression during our Interview
with him and secondly they totally blew me away
and took me by surprise when they took to the stage.
The band have been busy working on their second
studio album for some time now but the wait is
now over as 'Set The World On Fire' has just been
released on major label Lava records.
The album opens with 'New Religion' and it sounds
so much like previous Black Veil Brides material
but with a much more mature edge and also a fully
polished feel due to the top notch production,
the guitar riffs are nifty and quite outstanding
whilst the drum beats from Christian Coma are
so much better than previous drummer 'Sandra Alarenga',
and the vocals from Frontman Andy Biersack sound
a lot clearly this time around as on the debut
his vocals slightly let the album down, and not
to forget the backing vocal chants of "woah,
woah" which complete the sound.
The album title track 'Set The World On Fire'
is the song that the Black Veil Brides previewed
to their fans first, it was originally suppose
to feature in the Scream 4 movie but got ditched
at the last minute so the band made a 30 second
snippet avalible for their fans to listen to,
now the album is out the song is due to feature
within the Tramsformers 3 movie, the song itself
is a sing-a-long rock and roll anthem.
'Fallen Angels' is the lead song to be taken
from the album and it's easy to see why as the
song has a really catchy edge where Andy's vocals
fly like a raspy sounding M
shadows with a few shouty moments coming and going
throughout the song and more group vocal chants
of "woah, "woah".
Just like the Debut album the new album has a
slow paced rock ballad in 'Savior' and just like
'The Morticians Daughter' from the debut the song
happens to be the standout track from the album
and I am sure that it is going to be a future
single release with Black Veil Brides hoping it
will do for them what 'Dear God' did for Avenged
Sevenfold, with the only difference being that
as 'Savior' reached it's final moments in turns
into a mini scremo affair. With epic proportions.
The band’s debut album I managed to get
into really easily bit with 'Set The World On
Fire' the Black Veil Brides have created an album
that is made to grow on you, there are some outstanding
tracks which you will get into straight away like
the ones mentioned above and the closing moments
'Ritual' and 'Youth And Whiskey' but there are
also tracks like 'God Bless You', 'Rebel Love
Song' and the new single 'The Legacy' which took
me a few listens to fully get into and appreciate.
Overall 'Set The World On Fire' is a very enjoyable
album and even more so if you give it your full
time and attention, each and every song is enough
to keep you entertained but some may need to be
played a few times more than others to fully appreciate,
however I can't see the album converting the haters
but then again I very much doubt this is what
the band set out to do and before you ask, no
the album is not that best rock and roll album
in the world that Andy promised.
4/5
