Simple Plan are the kings of poppy punk and they
are now back with their forth studio album 'Get
Your Heart On!' and the album features more special
guests than your average episode of Glee and more
bounce than a pogo stick.
The album opens with 'You Suck At Love' and from
the off you just know that Simple Plan are sticking
to what they know and do best by writing extremely
infectious pop-punk music, the song flows at a
killer pace with the chorus raising to the brim
with pure anthemic style.
'Can't Keep My Hands Off You' starts off with
a killer drum beat and bouncy baseline before
some backing vocal chants of "oh oh oh"
come in, moments later Pierre comes in with his
signature lead vocals and these are backed up
every other verse by the stand out vocals from
Weezer's Rivers Cuomo who does a sterling job
of enhancing the whole Simple Plan sound.
'Jet Lag' could easily be classed as the cheesiest
song that Simple Plan have ever wrote but at the
same time it is also one of the catchiest true
to life songs they have ever wrote and once it
starts to get some radio airplay there will be
no escaping the catchiness, Natasha Bedingfield
guests on the song and her vocals really work
well alongside those of Pierre, and I expect a
lot of Simple Plan fans can relate to the lyrics
of missing a loved one, living miles away or even
working miles away from a loved one.
'Astronaut' is the token slow song from the album
where Simple Plan take to a stripped down acoustic
sound but like the true Simple Plan style they
still breeze through the chorus in an uplifting
way.
'Loser Of The Year' and 'Anywhere Else But Here'
are a double whammy of killer tracks that are
calling out to be released as singles, 'Loser
Of The Year' is more like classic Simple Plan
crossed with Zebrahead whilst 'Anywhere Else But
Here' reminds me a lot of the latest material
from Plain White T's.
As the album progresses it carries on the routine
of killer track followed by yet another killer
track right up until the album closer 'This Song
Saved My Life' which takes on a more serious soppy
approach.
If you like previous material by Simple Plan
than you should love 'Get Your Heart On!' as it
is without a doubt the best album the band have
ever released and is a squeaky clean progression
on their self titled album and is easily the poppiest
album you will hear all year long.
