When it comes to classic rock people instantly
think of bands like Def Leppard, Journey, AC DC,
Whitesnake and many others and I find it odd that
in the 34 years that Def Leppard have been going
they have never released a live album but that
is all about to change as on Monday Def Leppard
release ‘Mirror Ball’ which happens
to be their first ever live album however it is
not just your standard live album because it also
features three brand new Def Leppard studio tracks
which slot into the compilation just like the
majority of songs which span the band’s
back catalogue.
I only really got into Def Leppard fully when
they headlined the Download Festival back in 2009
but it was seeing them again at this year’s
festival which really opened my eyes to the band
and really made me appreciate their music and
perfectly gelled together stage presence, so getting
back from Download and receiving ‘Mirror
Ball’ was spot on.
‘Mirror Ball’ is split into three
discs, the first disc features 10 live tracks
whilst the second disc features 11 live tracks
and 3 brand new studio songs whilst the third
disc is actually a DVD which features a lot of
behind the scene footage and various different
songs.
The first disc features classic songs such as
‘Rocket’, ‘Animal’, ‘Nine
Lives’ and also a fantastic cover of David
Essex’s ‘Rock On’ which opens
with a breathtaking bass solo from the one and
only Rick Savage. The second disc in my opinion
is the strongest one of the two as it features
some of my favourite songs such as ‘Two
Steps Behind’, ‘Hysteria’, ‘Photograph’,
‘Pour Some Sugar On Me’, ‘Let’s
Get Rocked’, ‘Action’ and not
to forget the three new tracks ‘Undefeated’,
‘Kings Of The World’ and ‘It’s
All About Believing’ which all maintain
that classic Def Leppard vibe.
I feel that Def Leppard have done really well
with ‘Mirror Ball’ as in the past
many bands have released live albums which just
sound like a studio album with the crowd sounds
being taken away and the general in-between song
banter between the band and crowd but this is
where Def Leppard shine as they have left all
that in which really does add to the whole live
album experience a little more authentic.
I feel that hardcore Def Leppard fans will instantly
love ‘Mirror Ball’ and will quickly
snap it up to add it to their collection and at
the same time I also feel that this is the perfect
purchase to new fans of the band such as people
we watched them at Download festival for the first
time as ‘Mirror Ball’ acts as a live
album and greatest hits at the same time so you
get to experience all the best Def Leppard song’s
whilst also reliving that live experience without
even leaving your house.
