Now here’s a band to emerge that do not
follow trends and jump on the current musical
band wagon, they embrace the origins of hardcore
music extremely reminiscent of Hatebreed. In fact
vocally there isn’t much difference between
the 2 bands which could be difficult because Hatebreed
have had a lengthy career and have covered most
aspects of their sound so Impact are going to
have to do something pretty spectacular to even
break into the middle of the pack.
The CD does have some very nice experimentation
however and does separate them from the comparison
apart from the vocals which remain quite similar.
The song “To Those Lives Lost” they
experiment with a fair few different types of
style all brought into one; thrashy sections and
heavy hardcore beats and breakdowns both of which
entwine together perfectly.
All the songs on the album flow into one another
in a way that it’s hard to distinguish when
each song ends on a full listen. So “To
Those Lives Lost” flows into the second
track “Seconds Out” which is the strongest
track on the record, starting out with a very
thrash metal section with quick guitars and drumming
to a catchy chord sequence then a massive heavy
breakdown and then mixing the sections to the
end of the song making for a very varied track
which works for them really well.
The rest of the tracks don’t really match
up to the first 2 in terms of style and originality
like “Bite the Bullet” which ticks
all the box’s that the first 2 did yet it’s
not as memorable or catchy for some reason same
with “The Remedy”. “Trouble
Finds Me” is quite memorable with the chorus
being really simple and catchy but still it isn’t
as strong as the other 2 tracks which is really
gutting.
The CD on a whole is a good release; it shows
that the band is composed of capable musicians
and that they have great potential. I wasn’t
slating the tracks by saying they aren’t
as strong because they are good and I enjoyed
them but the first 2 are exceptionally strong
and I really got into them and felt a bond. If
they can enhance that and put it into a lot more
of their tracks then they can start to get somewhere.
