Earthtone9 - For Cause & Consequence EPEarthtone9 – For Cause & Consequence EP

Fresh from an 8 year hiatus Nottingham boys Earthtone9 are back with some fresh material for their new 4 track EP “For Cause & Consequence”, the first new material the band have put out in 9 years! The question needing to be answered is after such a time gap in material can a band keep a sense of style? Will they remember how to write as a band? Will anything have changed? Can they still be as good as they were if not better?

The answer to all is shut up of course they’re still on form! These 4 new tracks prove that Earthtone9 are back in fucking business and they haven’t missed a step. “Tide of Ambition” is a mean dirty riffy metal track with elements of progressive metal thrown in for good measure; the vocal work here is terrific especially the screams which are quite heavy and fitting.

“Ghosts” is a quite different track it’s got a bit of a different feel to it whilst retaining the same style as their other tracks there is a lot of twists and turns throughout this track between melodic verses and dirty metal sections intertwining throughout; same applies to the following track “The Trail That we Carved Out” apart from that song has a much catchier vocal line as opposed to its predecessor.

The final track on the EP “Reborn” and it is my personal favourite; the atmosphere in this song is something else. It’s got everything; melody, clean vocals, screams, dirty riffs and a flowing sense of eeriness throughout. On the whole the EP is an amazing return to form from the lads and with a UK tour on the go and an appearance at Sonisphere festival coming up they have big things ahead.

5/5
