Welsh lads Revoker have had a very positive hype
around them and on paper this album has the works
of the next big thing; being the first unsigned
band to be signed to Roadrunner Records, album
being produced by Benji Webbe of Skindred, support
slot with Rob Zombie and recently announced festival
appearances. So does the 12 track debut album
from this upcoming act do all the name dropping
justice? In my opinion, absolutely.
Fat chunky riffs that are memorable and hum along
standard, big range of vocals from melodic to
gritty screams, pace changes throughout basically
everything the band set out to do. From start
to finish pure metal with southern rock style
influences which makes for a great refreshing
British release. The album had 2 songs released
a while back “Thief” and “Stay
Down” which we’re available to download
and we’re both extremely catchy and addictive.
I heard pretty much the entire album on their
co-headline tour with Holy Grail back in March
and it sounds just as good live as it does on
CD.
Opening track “Time To Die” is a perfect
track just to show you what the band are going
for and to get you into it; very heavy song with
a great beat and catchy riff complemented by some
great vocals and catchy lyrics, other songs exactly
like this are “The Great Pretender”,
“Psychoville” and “Thief”.
“Born To Be An Outlaw” is a song that
follows the style they have but add some bounce
into it with the way the beat and the guitar’s
work together to create that kind of feel; other
songs like this are like “Stay Down”,
“All Rise” and “Hate Inside”.
I have seen a few comments regarding the originality
of the bands material and my views on that are
yes, you can see various parts that are reminiscent
of other bands such as Machine Head and Mudvayne
in some places but they aren’t rip offs
they just take the style of the music that in
their opinion (as well as mine) they consider
to be great and put it together and I think in
all honesty we could do with a few more bands
like this!
