Over the past couple of years The King Blues have
been on many people’s minds for many different
reasons such as the release of their second studio
album ‘Save The World, Get The Girl’
and also their constant touring schedule but for
a lot of people there has been a lot of debate
about the controversial departure of four of the
bands members and also the dropping from their
record label but it seems that The King Blues
have taken all this on the chin and have managed
to come back bigger and better than anyone ever
imagined.
Their third studio album ‘Punk And Poetry’
has just been released and it is everything that
punk rock should be in the way that the album
runs for a mere 30minutes but packs massive punches
throughout with some of the most catchy and upbeat
songs that The King Blues have ever crafted.,
the album starts with a short spoken word introduction
from Itch on ‘The Last Of The Dreamers’.
Most fans of The King Blues would of been keeping
tabs on their social network sites such as Facebook
and MySpace and if you did then you will be very
familiar with ‘We Are Fucking Angry’
and ‘Set The World On Fire’ as they
were the two songs streaming online weeks before
the album release to give it some extra exposure,
these two songs are played back to back on the
album, ‘We Are Fucking Angry’ is an
upbeat yet angst riddled song which comes across
as a message from The King Blues that they are
pissed off with all the negative comments and
are now back to take on the world again and fight
those big robbing bank bosses who are currently
screwing the world over financially. ‘Set
The World On Fire’ is a big radio friendly
song and it is no wonder why The King Blues chose
to release it as the first single from the album
as it is simply fantastic.
‘Dancehall’ has an oldskool ska-rock
vibe running throughout it, the song is very short
and sweet running for only 52seconds but it proves
to be a good stop gap between ‘Set The World
On Fire’ and ‘The Future’s Not
What It Used To Be’ as both songs are so
different from each other, ‘The Future’s
not What It Used To Be’ reminds me a lot
of the ska band Whitmore with a slightly more
mature sound.
‘I Want You’ is a big pop anthem that
wouldn’t feel to out of place on one of
those American teen flicks such as American Pie,
the song is extremely radio friendly and is bound
to be a future single release for The King Blues.
‘5 Bottles Of Shampoo’ musically shines
with the trumpet piece which runs throughout the
majority of the song, lyrically the song is well
written and is about how some men will never understand
women and how some men set a bad example for other
men.
‘Sex Education’ is quite a comical
song which touches on the whole nasty two women
one cup video which has been scaring the nation
for many years now. ‘Shooting Fascists’
is the token slow paced acoustic track on the
album and it really does give Itch the true potential
to shine and that is exactly what he does.
The standout track on the album is ‘Headbutt’
the song is a fast and furious punk-rock song
which has killer lyrics that will be stuck in
your head within seconds of listening and no matter
what you find yourself singing along each and
every time you hear the song.
With ‘Punk And Poetry’ The King Blues
have made a record that is nothing like their
previous releases, it will please most fans of
the band but might also cause some fans to switch
off but overall the album showcases Itch as a
stronger song writer and also shows that despite
all the recent setbacks The King Blues are back
with their catchiest material to date.
