Green Day - Awesome As FuckGreen Day – Awesome As Fuck

Green Day are one of the most loved bands on the planet today and since they formed 24 years ago they have gone from strength to strength and achieved so much more than what they set out to achieve when they first started out, during the later part of 2009 they did a massive tour across the UK playing all your big arenas including two shows at the o2 Arena in London and then during the summer of 2010 they came back to the UK to play some of their biggest shows ever at London Wembley Stadium and Manchester county cricket ground and during this touring cycle they also played pretty much every major city across the world with millions of fans heading out to see them.

Back in 2005 Green Day also played two sold out shows at Milton Keynes Bowl which at the time was noted as the biggest high of the bands career and months after the shows Green Day released ‘Bullet In A Bible’ which was a full live album and DVD package of the second Milton Keynes show and in my eyes is the best live package released by any band ever, well Green Day are now back with a new live offering called ‘Awesome As Fuck’.

‘Awesome As Fuck’ is an live CD/DVD package which was recording during the whole ‘21st Century Breakdown’ tour cycle and the CD features 17 songs that were played during the tour cycle and each and every song on the album is recorded from a different city and country from London, England all the way to Brisbane, Australia and pretty much everywhere else in-between in the hope of interesting a wider variety of fans.

The quality of the live album is fantastic it starts with ‘21ST Century Breakdown’ which was recorded in London then it moves on to ‘Know Your Enemy’ which was recorded in Manchester then it moves on to ‘East Jesus Nowhere which was recorded in Glasgow and so on throughout the 17 tracks included but the good thing about the album is that throughout you hear the crowds screams and vocals which is normally kept to a minimal during most live albums but the whole crowd participation is a main thing when it comes to the whole Green Day experience and secondly despite each song being taken from a different city it has been mixed so well that each track follows on from the last with no waiting moments or dodgy gaps.

The track listing in my opinion is a lot weaker than the track listing for ‘Bullet In A Bible’ and that is because this time it is mostly focused on the whole ‘21ST Century Breakdown’ album but at the same time there are some classic songs on offer such as ‘American Idiot’, ‘When I Come Around’, ‘Geek Stink Breath’ and not to forget the new track ‘Cigarettes And Valentines’ which has that big Green Day vibe throughout.

The DVD featured in the package is taken from a concert filmed in Tokyo Japan, so if you are expecting it to be a song from each and every city like the CD then you might be slightly disappointed and secondly some of the footage is very shaky and amateur looking, but on the plus side it features pretty much everything that you would of experienced on the ‘21st Century Breakdown’ tour and also features some behind the scenes antics.

If you attended a show on the ‘21st Century Breakdown’ tour then ‘Awesome As Fuck’ really is a must have purchase for you also if you are a hardcore Green Day fan then you seriously need to pick this up as we all know how long it takes Green Day to bring new material out, but if you are new to the whole Green Day experience I would recommend starting with ‘Bullet In a Bible’ or ‘International Superhits’.
