One thing to note is if people are looking for
“Swan Songs” part 2 then you’re
going to be disappointed because it’s a
different style all together. Another point is
that not many people knew that Deuce (sang clean
vocals on “Swan Songs”) was kicked
out before this album was recorded and was replaced
with Daniel Murillo who was the singer for Lorene
Drive and was an American Idol contestant; his
voice is quite different to that of Deuces and
fits the new sound really well it’s just
a shame the new sound isn’t as good.
Whilst the debut album “Swan songs”
was more pure rap rock with heavy metal influence,
“American Tragedy” has a heavy dance
influence as its main theme. That is not to say
it’s less rock but it’s certainly
a lot different from the first album; there are
some amazing tracks but there are also some just
awful songs.
Now “Been to Hell” is a good song,
it’s definitely got the metal edge that
a lot of people we’re expecting them to
keep but it shows just how different the new singers
voice is which is a bit out of place on this song.
His voice fits the following 2 songs “Apologize”
and “Comin’ In Hot” which are
both heavily dance influenced tracks, completely
different edge to what they used to do a little
bit disappointing.
There’s even use of auto tune in “My
Town” I’m just in disbelief that they’ve
changed this much since their Download ’09
performance, I mean I like this song but it’s
nothing on classics like “Everywhere I Go”
and “Sell Your Soul”. The song “Bullet”
is awful, really terrible song I don’t even
want to talk about it to be honest so let’s
move on.
However I will say I like a few, I mentioned “Been
to Hell” and “My Town” but there’s
also a few more; “Hear Me Now” which
is really catchy and I actually like Danny’s
Voice in it, “Glory” which is slightly
heavy again but not fond on the clean vocals,
“Lights out” which is bouncy catchy
and great fun to listen to and finally “Pour
Me” even though it just sounds like a pop
song I still like it for some reason. So that’s
it, of 14 tracks I like 6 of them; that really
isn’t promising for me continuing being
a fan of them after this album.
I really think they need Deuce back otherwise
they’re going to change and go completely
pop and mainstream after this and stop adding
rock influences at all. Utterly disappointing
to be honest after such a promising debut they
follow it up with this? If they don’t really
impress me at Download then they can say goodbye
to getting any more money from me in the near
future.
