Samiam are a band who have been around since 1990 and have just released
their seventh studio album. I have always heard of the band but have never
checked out any of the bands material until now when I got my hands on the
bands album, 'Whatever's Got You Down'.
'Whatever's Got You Down' is the bands first release in four years as
the band went on a long hiatus with their fans and press thinking the
band had called it quits for good until the band announced in early 2006
that they were working on a brand new album.
The band have got there own unique sound mainly due to Jason Beebout's
vocals which stand out well.
The album opens up with 'Take Care', which is the perfect opener to such
a tight sounding melodic record. 'Take Care' follows on from the opening
track in good style with some good guitar riffs and great vocals. The
catchy chorus of 'Get It Right' makes for a good change in sound for the
band. 'Do You Want To Be Loved' is another change in sound for the band
but in a bad way as the song is very repetitive and the vocals are pretty
shabby.
'Believer' is another stand out track on the album and has a slight Alkaline
Trio feel about it. 'Bide My Time' closes the album and is a pretty average
song. There is a bonus track called 'Ham Bone' which is pretty strange
and not really worth the listen.
The fans of Samiam must be happy that the band are back in action with
a new album which features a lot of decent melodic songs, the only downside
is some of the songs on the album sound a bit to similar but there is
a bit of variety on some songs. I will definitely be checking out older
Samiam albums now though.
