The long awaited debut Beady Eye album ‘Different
Gear, Still Speeding’ has finally been released
and I hear many people crying out asking if it
is any good and even more people asking if it
sounds like a carbon copy of Oasis due to Liam’s
trademark vocals, well first of all I will admit
that the album is pretty decent and secondly it
sounds like a big mix of Oasis crossed with The
Beatles which is pretty much what Liam Gallagher
has been obsessed with since he was a little nipper.
The album opens with ‘Four Letter Word’
which is one hell of a massive introduction track,
the instrumental work throughout the track is
fantastic and something that most Oasis and Liam
Gallagher fans would not be expecting but at the
same time will be instantly pleased with, the
guitar solos by Andy Bell are breathtaking and
like normal Liam’s vocals are on top form
and make way for a near perfect introduction.
‘Millionaire’ is a nice acoustic number
which sounds like a cross of The stone Roses mixed
with John Lennon, Liam’s vocals sound smooth
throughout and the acoustic guitar helps turn
the track into a nice listenable number.
‘The Roller’ is the lead single from
the album and when I first heard it I loved it
but started to question in my head if it was an
old Oasis song that I had never heard or if it
was a Beady Eye track and with the power of Shazam
on my Iphone I found out it was Beady Eye, the
song is fantastic and a proper sing-a-long radio
friendly number, the only downside of the track
is the fact that it is Oasis without Noel Gallagher
and in my this is something that should never
of happened and I also understand that the song
was created many years ago during the ‘Heathen
Chemistry’ sessions.
There may well be a fair few songs on the album
that sounds very much like Oasis but at the same
time there are also a lot of experimental tracks
such as ‘Beatles And Stones’ the song
sounds like a mad psychedelic stoner rock song
and the additional keyboard piece really adds
to the dynamics of the music throughout the track,
vocally the song is a big sing-a-long number.
‘Wind Up Dream’ is another experimental
track which oozes in blues style and is about
as far away from Oasis as Liam, Gem, Andy and
Chris are going to get, the solo vocal work is
fantastic and really does kick off the whole stoner
rock vibe once again.
One of the standout tracks on the album apart
from ‘The Roller’ is the fantastic
‘Bring The Light’ the song flows at
such a fast pace and Liam Gallagher proves what
a fantastic frontman he can be with the way that
his vocals just flow at a smooth pace and just
listening to the song you can imagine his swagger
on stage whilst blasting out the infectious lyrics,
pure greatness in my opinion.
I could carry on writing about each and every
track on the album but I am not going to do that
however I will say that the album is a big mix
of Oasis crossed with The Beatles whilst also
kicking out a 50’s meets 60’s stoner
rock vibe, I will also say that ‘The Roller’
could be the worse starting point for anyone who
wants to see what Beady Eye is all about as the
song sounds far too much like Oasis and was created
far too many years ago whilst the over tracks
on the album do not share that full on Oasis vibe
that we were all expecting.
Considering that Beady Eye is basically Oasis
minus the key song writer they have done extremely
well, the album is very accessible and well worth
purchasing but in all honesty I just wish Liam
Gallagher would get his head from out of his arse
and reform Oasis instead of pissing about with
second rate bands and albums.
