Jessie J - Who You AreJessie J – Who You Are

Every now and again a new female solo artist comes along and totally blows everyone away, back in 2007 it was Kate Nash, 2008 it was Adele, 2009 it was Lady Gaga, 2010 was Ellie Goulding and Eliza Doolittle and 2011 a lot of new names are floating around such as Katy B, Sky Ferreira and Jessie J, but it is Jessie J who is causing the most buzz within the music industry and due to the constant interest and popularity of Jessie J her record label have decided to move her album release date forward by a few weeks to stop people seeking out illegal downloads and also to please her fast growing fan base.

I first caught onto Jessie J only a couple of weeks ago when her latest single ‘Price Tag’ kept being played on the radio, at the time I had no idea who it was but instantly fell in love with the song and still love the song now despite the fact that it has been heavily over played but the whole upbeat vibe and beautifully executed vocals is enough for me to never grow bored of the song and it seems that the majority of the UK feel the same way if the recent number 1 chart position is anything to go by.

Now I am sure that many people are wondering if ‘Who You Are’ really is that good to have had the release date moved forward by a few weeks and I can confirm that if you are a fan of the Jessie J singles ‘Price Tag’ and ‘Do It Like A Dude’ then you will totally love the album and if you are a fan of artists such as Katy Perry, Rihanna or Christina Aguilera then you will also love the album.

The album opens with the ever so loveable and infectious ‘Price Tag’ and then blasts straight into ‘Nobody’s Perfect’ a track which really oozes in style with the perfectly sounding beautiful vocals which Jessie J showcases throughout.

There are many strong tracks throughout the album with the biggest sounding tracks being the two main singles ‘Price Tag’ and ‘Do It Like A Dude’ but sitting nicely right behind those are the infectious ‘Rainbow’ the ever so cleaver written ‘L.O.V.E’ and my personal favourite track ‘Who You Are’ which also happens to be the album title track.

‘L.O.V.E’ is a love song but not your typical cheesy sounding love song, instead the song is about Jessie J never wanting to write a love song but then confessing “fuck it, I’m in love” within the lyrics which happy to be fun and quirky throughout, the song has a beautiful vibe and flows in such an uplifting way.

‘Who You Are’ is a big sing-a-long track from start to finish and is without a doubt one of the strongest moments of the album and from the go Jessie really shows off her fantastic song writing skills and at the same time her amazing vocal abilities which have enough power to lift off the roof of the biggest arenas across the country which Jessie J is bound to be selling out by the end of the year.

Like most albums ‘Who You Are’ does have a few weak moments which pretty much come across like fillers such as the boring ‘Abracadabra’ which comes across sounding like a song by The Saturdays which has gone slightly wrong, another weak moment on the album is ‘Casualty Of Love’ as the song has no real get up and go and comes across pretty average, however don’t let these moments put you off the album as it is pretty hard to find an album these days that do run smoothly throughout and in all honesty the album does feature many killer tracks which will warrant your hard earned money.

Overall ‘Who You Are’ is a really strong album release and perfectly showcases the talents of Jessie J from her general song writing skills to her wide vocal range and as a debut album she should really be pleased with what she has achieved.
