Logan is a band that came into my life around
the same time that Alter Bridge did thanks to
my old guitar teacher John. He told me to go listen
to both bands because they were phenomenal rock
bands so I did just that.
This is Logan’s 5th album and has some of
the same songs on it that “Cruel Little
World” and “First Leaf Fallen”
did. Nevertheless of having some reworked songs
on the album lets dive right into it. Logan have
always managed to be a hard rock band but be on
the softer side of the genre at the same time,
they really are smack band in the middle of the
genre classification. This album however is definitely
for the most part on the softer side of their
material.
I will mention the 3 tracks that have been reworked
and released on this album that were on its predecessor
“Cruel Little World”; “When
I Get Down” is Logan’s anthem, at
every show they play this song and it’s
the most catchy with its melodic intro then kicks
off into a heavier mix of melody and dirty rock
riffs. “Hallowed Ground” on the previous
album was a very weird song but since they reworked
it, it’s become a very different son; the
vocals are greatly improved and the music’s
been touched up too. Finally “Lost and Found”
a personal favourite of mine that’s also
been reworked beautifully, I’m really glad
they picked this one to do because they’ve
improved it greatly and it’s even more addictive
now.
After these 3 the rest of the album has to be
something special to match up to these. “Spin
the Wheel”, “Save Me” and “Rock
‘N’ Roll Way” are new songs
that are on par with the style with the 3 reworks
and are everything I love about Logan; some bouncy
fun in some songs and beautiful melodies in others.
There are extremely light songs on this album
like “Born to run” and “The
Great Unknown” which are brilliant little
songs that has feeling and emotion in them. However
after all of these there are songs that have potential
but are not quite on par with the rest of the
tracks on this album like “Jump in Again”,
“Brother” and “Hold my Hand”
that need a bit of work in them to be as lively
and catchy.
On the total the lads have put out a corker of
an album that proves they aren’t just a
one hit wonder but can really make some good music.
However this was a 2010 release and since then
I’ve heard very little from the band which
does worry me a little but with any luck they’ll
wake from the dead soon and let us know what’s
going on.
