If you read my review for the debut Destroy Rebuild
Until God Shows single ‘If You Think This
Song Is About You, It Probably Is’ then
you will know how much I have been hyping up this
band and how much I have been looking forward
to their debut self titled album, well the wait
is finally over as the album is here and my god
has it been worth the wait.
The album opens with the main single ‘If
You Think This Song Is About You, It Probably
Is’ and the song is still as good now as
it was when I first heard it a couple of months
ago, the opening drum beats are just breathtaking
and what follows for the next 2minutes and 30seconds
is everything that the screamo scene is all about.
‘The Only Thing You Talk About’ starts
in an epic way with massive group vocal chants
of “We all know, we all know by now your
the only thing that you talk about” and
from that moment you just know that the song is
going to be a massive sing-a-long affair and that
is exactly what it is, the vocals throughout the
song change from being melodic to screamo during
many moments and this is exactly what adds to
the excitement that is surrounding these guys.
‘Graveyard Dancing’ opens with a
Panic At The Disco! Instrumental introduction
but that is exactly where the Panic At The Disco
comparison starts and stops as the rest of the
song is nothing like Panic At The Disco despite
being one of the slower tracks on the album, the
electronic vibe and Craig’s massive vocals
is just enough to drag you in for the ride.
‘Mr. Owl Ate My Metal Worm’ is an
amazingly named track and happens to be one hell
of an accessible track which flows at such a fast
beautiful pace that you will instantly find yourself
falling in love with the whole melodic feel of
the track.
‘Sex Life’ is one of my favourite
tracks on the album and features epic lyrics of
“If you had a sex life, a sex life, would
you even worry about mine, when your bed is empty,
you’re a waste of time” now you can
tell these are true and honest personal lyrics
coming from Craig Owens but at the same time I
am sure that many people can relate to every word
coming out of Craig’s mouth, musically the
track is massive sounding from the big drum beats,
rhythmic guitars and huge sing-a-long chorus and
it is enough for you to know that this is going
to be one a future stand out track at the bands
live shows.
It is pretty impossible to find a weak moment
throughout the 11 tracks of the album and at the
same time it is also hard to pick out a key standout
track as they all seem to stand out in their own
way but if I was forced to pick my favourite tracks
from the album then they would be the main single
‘If You Think This Song Is About You, It
Probably Is’, ‘Sex Life’ and
the fantastic and anthemic ‘Laminated E.T.
Animal’.
I could go on and talk about each and every track
on the album as they are all so damn good and
all have their own quality’s but I am not
going to do that, but what I will say is that
track 7 ‘Stop Reading, Start Doing Pushups’
hits a heavy peak for the album and from that
moment the rest of the tracks on the album become
incredible fast and catchy with the majority of
screams and anger left behind with ‘The
Hangman’ standing out slightly more than
the other tracks towards the later part of the
album.
If you are a fan of From First To Last, Story
Of The Year, Matchbook Romance, Chiodos or any
band that Craig Owen has ever been involved in
then you will love everything about the debut
album from Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows, if
you have never been a fan of the above mentioned
bands then I would still recommended you checking
this out as many of my friends have been hooked
on these guys just on the back of their debut
single ‘If You Think This Song Is About
You, It Probably Is’ which I recommended
to them back in December.
Overall a perfect debut from one of the most
exciting new bands in the world today.
