First thing to note about this band is that in the
current scene they are placed between genres. They
encompass modern day hardcore whilst not joining
the endless trend of bands within these genres by
keeping in the old school metalcore influences.
I can hear resemblances’ to many bands within
their sound; Ill Nino with the clean vocals, Early
Atreyu with the screams and riffs, and Five Finger
Death Punch with some of the breakdowns and melodies.
All of these influences make up in essence what
Kill ‘Em Dead Cowboy are as a band; a heavy
melodic metalcore band.
The first song on the album “Wake Up”
sets listeners up for what’s to come, my personal
favourite track on the album. Very catchy chorus
and stupidly groovy and heavy breakdowns; especially
the introduction, the way it leads up to the kick
in and then just smashes into the madness with some
heavy riffage.
I talked about the hardcore element to their music;
this is best shown in the last track on the album
“The Horror”. The deepest growls on
the album and excessive breakdowns; yet they still
retain their metalcore credentials by keeping the
melodies and riffs in there in places with melodic
chorus’s.
Possibly the grooviest song on the album is called
“The Consequence” no matter what type
of metal you are into this song will have something
in there for you. It’s got groove, it’s
got melody, it’s got breakdowns and it’s
got sheer brutal heavy elements.
The whole album oozes with potential to be something
really great. There are some amazing tracks like
the ones mentioned as well as “I Am Your King”,
“Dead & Gone”, “Save Ourselves”
and “Beneath Those Eyes”. Whilst there
are those amazing tracks all of the tracks feel
like they could have gone just a little bit further
because as they stand they don’t compete with
some of the amazing metalcore albums out there today.
The bands only downfall is that unlike the bands
they have taken influence from, they lack the originality
and hooks in their music which doesn’t make
them a bad band it’s just that it has nothing
to keep you addicted to the music, but for a debut
release it is a terrific start and at least they
have the groundwork and potential to become the
next big band to aid in the revival of metalcore.
4/5
