“Jaws” is the first single by the midlands
based indie rock band The Sharabangs. The band are
the product to have come together from the ashes
of a few previous projects all of which I encountered.
Previous project Fused got to the final of the Bank’s
battle of the bands at civic hall which was a big
competition.
The song itself is a very mellow and peaceful natured
tune with in some places a slightly more rock vibe
involved creating for a definite head bobbing. It’s
interesting as normally I’m not a big indie
man myself but in this case it’s just a blend
of different kinds of styles and feelings into one
song with elements of indie, rock and dance genres
all brought to the table it’s hard not to
get into it. The guitar work is fairly simple but
ultimately ties in to the theme and vibe of the
song; the most interesting part of the song is the
drumming definitely, it just changes throughout
the entire song and gives it the rock edge that
it needed.
There are some things that I thing when progressing
onto their album would be to ensure the vocals are
perfect throughout because for the most part you
can’t flaw the singers distinctive voice but
in times it shows some small signs of weakness but
as the band progress – which they will this
year – so will the growth of all the members.
After a few listens you can picture a future for
the band’s sound and see how they could expand
given today’s music market and expansion of
bands in their genre happens ridiculously quickly.
If the band can string together a strong live show
then they will have no problem becoming the next
big thing; I’ll find this out on the 9th February
at the Robin 2 in Bilston. If they can impress me
there then I have no doubt in my mind anything but
greatness for the band.
4/5
