Less Than Jake are one of the most legendary and
long running ska-punk bands ever they formed back
in 1992 and have enjoyed a 19 year career so far
with 8 studio albums sitting nicely under their
belts, back in 2008 Less Than Jake created their
own record label titled Sleep It Off which was the
home of their last studio album ‘GNV FLA’
and was an idea for Less Than Jake to take control
of their future and legacy which having the power
to give their fans exactly what they want.
Now the 1996 release of ‘Losing Streak’
and 1998 release of ‘Hello Rockview’
have always been the favourite Less Than Jake
album releases amongst the fans, with most fans
only ever been able to get both albums bundled
as a double pack due to that being the way they
have been released for the past ten years or so
but that is soon to chance because on the 1st
March 2011 Less Than Jake will re-release ‘Losing
Streak’ and ‘Hello Rockview’
as individual releases.
Musically ‘Losing Streak’ is the
exact same album nothing has been digitally remastered
or played with and all 16 tracks are included
and sound exactly the same as they did once originally
released back in 1996, the main difference with
the re-release is the packaging with the album
now bundled in a bumper cardboard packaging which
folds out to feature beautiful looking Less Than
Jake style cartoon artwork from the cardboard
covering to the fold out poster which happens
to be an replica of the front cover and doubles
into a lyrics sheet on the reverse side and not
to forget the pimped up prints on the actual CD.
The main added feature to the package is a DVD
which features ‘Losing Streak’ played
in its entirety live in the bands native of Florida,
the show looks like a truly intimate show with
some of the bands most hardcore fans their captured
having the time of their live and equally the
band seem to be having the time of their lives
as well, the DVD features Less Than Jake at their
energetic best whilst also showing the band in
their much loved comical ways with crowd interaction
in-between songs and the comical ending of Less
Than Jake inviting a couple of mums on stage to
dance and sing-a-long.
Overall the ‘Losing Streak’ re-release
is a much buy for all hardcore Less Than Jake
fans and anybody who has never had the chance
to buy the album before as it is one of the best
albums that the band have ever released with songs
such as ‘Johnny Quest (Thinks We’re
Sellouts), ‘Lockdown’ and ‘Sugar
In your Gas Tank’ still featuring heavily
in the bands setlists all these years on.
