For the people who have never heard of Hinder, they
are a rock band from the USA have just released
their third album. Since the release of their first
album “Extreme Behaviour” – which
is the lightest of the 3 records – the music
has got progressively heavier with each album that
has followed it.
This new release is by far the heaviest material
the band have released, usually their sound is
the middle ground between the areas of hard rock
and the softer side of the genre. Also entwined
with the heavy rock vibe are elements of southern
rock that add a truly beautiful groove, the best
example of this is in the very first track “2
Sides of Me”. As for the vocals on the album
– and in fact all of their albums –
are a style that to me is much reminiscent of
Steven Tyler’s vocals however a lot deeper
and grittier.
There is a lot of diversity within the album
with the style in which all the songs are written.
There is a large range of styles used most notably;
“All American Nightmare” is right
next to “2 Sides of Me” for being
the heaviest track on the album both with a southern
twist, “What Ya Gunna Do” is the ballad
for the album, “Striptease” which
has an extremely demonic evil vibe from start
to finish with heavy metal influences and then
there’s “Good Life” which is
without a doubt a classic rock track.
Regardless of musical changes Hinder’s
lyrics have always been consistent throughout
every release; rather than complain about getting
their heart broken or how terrible life is they
decide to relate to the modern day lifestyles
and experiences people have as opposed to a different
generation. These include drug experimentation,
alcohol abuse and yes, there is a couple of songs
about love; however they are not the generic ones
written by the majority of commercial rock bands
these days about crying over things and feeling
sorry for yourself, it’s more of a “You’ll
be ok, this shit happens to the best of us get
up and carry on” which is a much more positive
outlook and this is reflected in the feeling you
gain when listening to the album. The band certainly
has the rock image with a feel good and party
hard attitude that makes them a lot of fun, I
hope this band gets the worldwide recognition
that they deserve over this next year.
